Let’s be real… I really only get excited for the Superbowl because…

Beyonce performing in an awkward pose

and

Dogs playing

and of course THIS

Vegan sliced pizza pie with cherry tomatoes, artichokes, olives, and basil

No doubt you’ll be enjoying all of the above (plus some actual football viewing this Sunday).

But before you get down on all the meatballs, chili dogs, chips and dip and cheesy pizza might I offer some alternatives?

These recipes are all MLH (meat lovin’ husband) approved and so tasty you and your friends won’t even notice they’re made from real, whole, nutrient-dense foods and full of fiber, protein and antioxidants…. however they will probably notice how good they feel after they eat it and the strange absence of needing to take a nap immediately afterwards #foodcoma.

  1. Chipotle Sweet Potato Salad

Swap traditional potato salad or fries for this bad boy. It’s slightly sweet, slightly spicy and smoky with that chipotle flavor. Guaranteed crowd pleaser.

2. Tempeh BBQ Baby Back Ribs

Looking for a satisfying meat alternative for any of your vegetarian guests? This one will do the trick. Tempeh has a hearty texture and also absorbs marinades really well, making for a flavorful, substantial dish.

3. Award Winning Guacamole

What’s a SB Partay without some sort of dip and finger foods? Swapping chips for crisp veggies and dip for creamy, fatty (the good kind!) guacamole is a no-brainer, plus scooping it into bell peppers will make you feel like the next Martha Stewart.

4. Sweet Potato Black Bean Tacos or Roasted Cauliflower Crack Tacos

Two tacos with cauliflower, chickpeas, avocado, and cilantro on a plate

Speaking of guacamole, you can’t go wrong with TACOS as an option. My sweet potato black bean tacos remain one of my most popular recipes and the roasted cauliflower crack tacos are unique yet delicious. Even better have a taco bar and offer the toppings from both!

5. Baked Chipotle Cheddar Mac N’ Cheese

This picture does NOT do this bad boy justice. One of MLH’s faves fo sho- it’s a creamy, smoky alternative to the original and your dairy-free friends will PRAISE you.

6. Butternut Squash Chili

If you’re looking for something easy- this should do the trick. Pour all ingredients in your crockpot Saturday, and a delicious chili awaits on game day. You’re welcome.

7. Vegan Mozzarella Artichoke Pizza

Vegan, gluten-free sliced pizza pie with cherry tomatoes, artichokes, olives, and basil

Can’t go wrong with pizza. But instead of ordering from Papa J’s, you can make your own- they’re really easy, really delicious, and so much better for you!

8. Veggie Burgers

Disclaimer- this recipe isn’t the easiest, but it is super delicious and makes a big batch. If you have the time and are craving a burger, this one is for you.

9. Sweet Potato Fries

And if you’re making veggie burgers, you obvs need sweet potato fries as a side. These also work as an amazing vehicle for all sorts of dips like guac, hummus, chipotle mayo, etc.

No doubt these healthy Superbowl dishes are sure to score #WINNING. Happy, healthy game day homies!
