You’re gonna wanna put down the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Because this Halloween I’ve got a better option for you (and your kiddos). Treats that are still just as delicious, but made with REAL ingredients. Ingredients that will totally satisfy your sweet craving without giving you nasty sugar high’s and lows and confuse your body with chemicals or toxic ingredients that it doesn’t know what to do with (so the body stores it in fat cells to protect itself and it’s essential organs…but that’s a whole ‘notha story).
Ok NOW pick up the Reese’s Peanut Cup, but don’t open it yet!
Read the ingredients label. It probably reads something like this:
Milk chocolate, (milk, chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, no fat milk, milk fat, lactose, soy lecithin, PGPR), peanuts, sugar, dextrose, salt, TBHQ and citric acid.
Do you know what all of those ingredients are? Yeah I didn’t either. So I looked it up:
•PGPR (polyglycerol pilyricinoleate): Reese’s are made with this controversial ingredient PGPR that has replaced cocoa butter in an effort to cut down on manufacturing costs. PGPR is made from castor beans that reduces the viscosity of chocolate. This chemical has been found to cause gastrointestinal discomfort and allergic reaction in children. Ummmm no thanks.
•Soy lecithin: 93% of soy is genetically modified. Soy lecithin can cause breast cancer, has negative effects on fertility and reproduction, may lead to behavioral and cerebral abnormalities. (Read More About Soy Lecithin)
•TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone):
TBHQ comes from petroleum (RED FLAG) and is related to butane. This can be toxic and also cause nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ear, delirium and collapse. It is shown to cause stomach cancer in lab rats, fragment DNA and cause damage to humane lung and umbilical cells. In children it can cause anxiety, restlessness, and intensify the symptoms of ADHD. WTF?!!!!
In the spirit of Halloween I may be freaking you out a little bit (sorry not sorry) but after reading that do you honestly wanna put that ish in yours and your loved one’s bods?
Didn’t think so.
Lucky for you there is a better, more delicious way. And it doesn’t have to be expensive or hard. Quite the opposite in fact.
Treats made with real ingredients (that you can actually pronounce) like antioxidant rich cacao, fat-burning coconut oil and protein-packed nuts that are nutrient dense (so a little goes a long way) and good for your body AND your soul.
Because your body is the only one you’ve got and it deserves the best right?
So #TREATYOSELF to any of the recipes below (all Meat-lovin’ hubby and child approved).
Reeses Peanut Butter cups ain’t got NUTTIN on deez. Six ingredients. 30 minutes. No prep work. DO IT.
Feeling a bit more ambitious in the kitchen? Try this life-changing combo of pumpkin, cocoa butter, dark chocolate and cashew butter.
Ever heard of a little old thing called golden milk? It’s all the rage right now and is a delicious concoction made with coconut or almond milk, ground turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and raw honey. Now imagine that flavor in a macaroon. Topped with dark chocolate. Yes Please!
If you are a dark chocolate hedonist (like I am) these babies were made for you.
Okay so this isn’t really candy like per se…. but holy ish does it look amazing! Plus it’s filled with superfood and perfect to bring to your next family gathering.
This is one of MLH’s absolute faves. It’s spooky good and guaranteed to go fast so you may want to make an extra batch!
My girl Sarah Adler at Simply Real Health knows whats up. If you love cookies (honestly who doesn’t?!) you HAVE to try these.
Three things I love. Tahini, dates, and cacao (no not bombs ya ninny)! Minimalist Baker keeps her recipes minimal and this is no exception.
In the mood for a DESSERT dessert? I’ve got you covered with this creamy, peanut buttery, rich, decadent mousse. Don’t forget to top with coconut whipped cream for the ultimate UN-guilty pleasure.
