Now we all know I am a maje fan of Kimberly Snyder’s GGS (glowing green smoothie, duh). However lately I have been craving something a bit more satiating, nutrient dense and flavorful in the morning. Our bodies are extremely intuitive and I’m trying to be more mindful and do a better job of listening to it instead of following rigid guidelines (because I’ve finally learned life doesn’t follow them either and you must adapt people!). But I just couldn’t give up my daily GGS (it honestly makes me look and feel so.much.better) so I knew it was time to improvise.
Enter in my Glowing Green SUPERFOOD smoothie. Just like Kimberly’s GGS, this bad boy is chockful of antioxidants, greens, and fiber. However with a few simple tweaks it also has protein, omega’s and healthy monounsaturated fats that will keep you feeling fuller longer (and add tons of flavor and a rich creamy texture) so it tastes more decadent and way less healthy (but it totally is :)).
Here’s a quick breakdown of why each superfood ingredient makes this smoothie a winning combination:
Blueberries- These coveted berries get their rich blue color from the flavanoid anthocyanins, which also contribute to numerous health benefits that help decrease the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease while simultaneously promoting gorg skin and hair, increased energy, and overall lower weight. Boom!
Bananas- Best known for their potassium, a banana a day keeps high blood pressure at bay! But seriously increasing your potassium levels also can help prevent against asthma and cancer. They also add a sweet, dessert like taste to any smoothie.
Kale/Spinach Blend- OMG where do I even start? Leafy greens are most likely the best thing for your body like, ever. Both spinach and kale have a TON of vitamins and health benefits but my favorite thing about them is probably the fact that they contain high amounts of chlorophyll which assists in blocking the carcinogenic effects of heterocyclic amines (which have been reported to cause cancer). EFF you cancer!
Coconut Water- Chockful of essential electrolytes and super hydrating, this is one of the best hangover cures (besides a hair of the dog of course). Hydration is key in prevent wrinkles and keeping that skin of yours luminous and super smooth.
Avocado- These babies are loaded with monounsaturated fatty acids (the good kind!!) such as oleic acid which is linked to reducing inflammation (crucial for digestion and settling the stomach as well as fighting breakouts). But the KEY thing here about adding avocado to this smoothie is that the fat in the avocado helps us digest the loads of nutrients you’re getting from the fruits and veggies in the smoothie (vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat soluble, meaning they need to be combined with fat in order to be utilized). Long story short it dramatically increases the nutrient value of the smoothie. Oh have I mentioned it gives this smoothie a super rich, creamy and dessert like texture? #WINNING
Add-on’s- I typically top my morning smoothie with Bee Pollen (which is a major energy enhancer) but any of these superfood add-on’s will add extra nutrients and health benefits (not to mention different flavors). Try them out and see which ones you like best!

It’s also delicious, six-ingredients and takes about two minutes to make. #ohkaleyeah
So Fresh N So GREEN Superfood Smoothie
- 1 cup coconut water
- At LEAST (you can add more) 1 cup kale/spinach blend
- ½ avocado
- 1 handful blueberries (pre-frozen)
- 1 large banana (pre-frozen)
HELPFUL TIP- Buy a bunch of blueberries/bananas, and put them in individual portion size ziplock bags in the freezer. I do this every Sunday and then I can grab a bag and toss it in. It keeps the smoothie nice and cold!
- Toss all ingredients into a blender and blend. Top with desired toppings. And that’s all there is to it!
