If you’ve been around for awhile (or if you’re new, HI, so glad you’re here!) you know that I believe enjoying real, nutrient-dense foods in simple and delicious ways (without restriction or guilt) is absolutely key to balancing your hormones, boosting your fertility and looking and feeling your best.
But it’s not the only piece of the puzzle to your health, and through my own personal journey I discovered the one surprising thing that had the biggest impact on my health had actually nothing to do with food.
And for me, that meant leaving the steady 9-5 corporate world and launching my own career as an online health coach.
So that I could wake up each morning feeling excited and lit up about how I was going to spend each and every day, rather than using coping mechanisms that were destroying my mental, physical and financial health (too much drinking, online shopping, tv watching, binge eating and food obsession, etc.) to get through each week, escape on the weekends, and find myself with SERIOUS Sunday Scaries as I prepared to do it all over again.
But the road to getting here wasn’t clear, and even after I graduated from nutrition school and knew I wanted to be a hormone health coach, I didn’t have a clue on how I was actually going to do it.
Enter in the final part of this 3 part series, where I share all the details on how starting my own business as an online health coach transformed my health and life in the process (as well as how to know if this might be the missing link for you too!)
Through the process of taking B-School, I gained the confidence and clarity I needed to finally branch out on my own as an online health coach.
As I took the course, I also filed for my LLC and began the process of building out my website (which module 2 helped me tremendously with, from selecting a web hosting platform, to graphic design, to creating a website that connects and highlights specific products or services, etc.)
I hired someone to assist with my logo, design and branding, and then I went to town getting my name out there and offering helpful, FREE resources to others any and every way I could (see previous post for exact things I did to get started and launch my online health coaching business).
It took some time, but eventually I started attracting clients (people from the gym I worked out with, former colleagues from the corporate world, attendees from workshops I hosted, patients of naturopathic doctors I networked with, etc.)
With each client, I gave them my absolute full time and attention, as if they were my ONLY client (which at first was pretty true, lol). I knew that providing them with the most intentional and supportive experience would not only help them transform their health in the process, but get them excited to share about it (to other potential clients down the road).
I also worked at a variety of part-time jobs to supplement my income, from the front-desk coordinator at an infrared sauna business to a cryotherapy chamber assistant. These jobs were intentionally chosen as another way to share my coaching business with people interested in health and wellness, as well as a cushion so that I never EVER gave out desperate vibes (trust, people can sense them).
It was gritty, messy, and nowhere near as “safe” or as “impressive” as my former six-figure salary and role in the fancy corporate world of catered lunches and designer clothes, but I finally felt a level of fullness and satisfaction that I NEVER knew existed until I started my own business.
When you go from waking up most days of the week dreading how you’re going to spend them to waking up full of excitement, determination and purpose, you can imagine the kind of impact it has on your happiness and life.
What was more unexpected was the transformation it had on my health…physically, mentally and emotionally.
Now, don’t get me wrong, starting and running your own business is HARD. But it’s also incredibly fulfilling if it’s what you’re truly passionate about.
And because I felt so much more fulfilled following mine, I no longer needed to seek out numbing or coping mechanisms like drinking, binge-eating, online shopping over my budget or hours of mindless tv watching.
Instead, these habits were replaced with ones that empowered me to show up as the best version of myself so that I could help my clients do the same and propel my business forward.
I started getting up earlier and working out in the morning, not as a form of punishment but as a way to move my body and get my blood pumping, which I knew would keep my mood and energy levels boosted through a full day with clients.
I took walks outside at the end of each “work day” to help me de-stress and unwind into the evening.
I began eating as a way to nourish myself, filling up on nutrient-dense and balanced meals in a calm, present state, in order to stay mentally sharp and on-point (this was also so much easier to do working from home, as I didn’t have to spend hours upon tedious hours of meal prep and could toss together a few more things on demand).
I stopped drinking so much in order to stay mentally sharp and get a restful night’s sleep, and when I did imbibe it wasn’t as a way to escape, but rather enhance a meal or experience.
As a result, the extra 5-10 pounds I had been carrying around my mid-section began to come off.
My periods became less heavy and painful and much more regular.
I had way less anxiety and began to get deep, restorative sleep at night.
My breakouts were much less frequent, and after bouts of hair thinning it began to come in thick and strong again.
My digestion improved. I was less bloated and constipated.
Basically, all of the health results I had sought out for years in the form of intense physical workouts and “eating clean” effortlessly and naturally occurred as I began to live my life in a way that felt aligned and authentic to me in ALL aspects, not just health-wise.
I felt light, vibrant and beautiful, inside and out. I was finally creating and living the life I had always dreamed of.
While those health transformations might sound amazing (trust me, I don’t take them for granted) the change I was most pleasantly surprised by was the shift in my happiness and mental health.
As someone who has previously struggled with anxiety and depression (often getting stuck in my own loop of negative thoughts), positivity had never really come easily or naturally to me.
But as I worked at growing my business as an online health coach, it became apparent if I truly wanted to help others (and make a profitable income in doing so) I HAD to evolve personally as well.
So I began incorporating a morning routine, beginning my days with meditation, breathing exercises and a gratitude practice.
I started gravitating towards inspiring, positive (but in a REAL way), kind, smart and driven entrepreneurs, business women and creators as a way to learn from them and help me grow.
I attended workshops, both online and in person focusing on different aspects from wellness to business to female leadership and connection.
I read books and listened to hours upon hours of podcast interviews written and hosted by women making six and seven figures doing what they loved.
I slowly began weeding out anything negative or toxic in my life, whether it be social media accounts, news outlets or people.
I hired my own coach and therapist.
And things slowly but surely began to shift, to the point where I can honestly say today I haven’t suffered a depressive episode in almost five years.
Sure, I’ve dealt with a lot of low points, challenges and curve balls just like everybody else (umm hi 2020!!), but starting my own business has empowered me to create a business and life I love, and because of it my mental and physical health has never been better.
If you can related to my story on any level, from finding less than healthy coping mechanisms as a way to help you get through the mundane work week or a feeling that you’re meant to do something bigger and better with your life, then you’re probably also wondering what the next step might look like to help you get out of rut and into living your one best, most vibrant, beautiful life.
Thus, you can use these bullets below to help you figure out if you’re ready to take the next step in creating your own online business.
If the above bullets resonate with you in ANY way, then let me just say I am so glad you’re here. Because you’re here for a REASON, and I think it might be time to invest in yourself.
Truly, as you’ve know hopefully read via part 1 and part 2 of this series, Marie’s B-School was the exact framework I used after completed my nutrition training in order to get my business off the ground and running.
It’s been six years now, and I STILL use or attend B-School in some aspect each year, whether it be a revision on my website, launching a new product or choosing a backend service I need as my business continues to grow (plus the program is completely new this year and I’m so excited to dig into the relevant updates!)
Honestly, if I hadn’t taken this course, I don’t know that I’d ever have gone through with launching my business because of how overwhelming it can be.
And if I didn’t launch my business, I kind of shudder thinking of what my life would be like instead (and how unhealthy and unhappy I’d most likely still feel as a result). And I just don’t want you to get stuck in that same boat, especially because I know without a doubt you have something special to offer others that they NEED too.
Because I know what a big and scary leap this is, I want to offer you as much support as possible.
Thus I’ve created a mastermind group for anyone reading this that enrolls in this year’s B-School, as a way for you to connect with other women going through the exact same thing you are as well as myself, who knows exactly what it’s like to be there.
Truly, there’s nothing more inspiring or helpful than a community of driven, supportive women lifting each other up, especially during a time that can feel incredibly overwhelming.
I can also speak to this firsthand, as I opted into a mastermind program with the badass business woman who told me about B-School, and it really helped me feel less alone during a time that can feel pretty isolating.
So if you decide to enroll in this year’s B-School with me, you’ll also receive these bonuses:
That’s a total of $3,000 in additional bonuses when you sign up for this year’s B-School program with me (and this is the LAST year I’ll be able to offer the bonus mastermind group, so I truly hope you’ll join me!)
