Growing up, one of my favorite summer memories was frequenting the local Dairy Queen for a blizzard (which, for those that don’t know, is basically soft serve ice cream blended with different toppings).
My flavor preferences always included a cookie of some sort, typically toggling between chocolate chip cookie dough and Oreo cookie blizzard.
It’s been YEARS since I’ve had a traditional blizzard, because while I adore ice cream and ALL of the toppings, I don’t love the way it makes me feel afterwards (cue the major dairy bloat and refined-sugar crash).
And because I’ve already perfected my take on a hormone-healthy and gut-friendly chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard, this summer I set out on a mission to recreate an Oreo Cookie Blizzard. And friends I have to say, I REALLY outdid myself with this one.
Because this Gut-Friendly Oreo Cookie Blizzard is everything you’d want it to be: frosty, thick, creamy and studded with chunks of the most delicious paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan Oreo cookies. And while the taste is spot on, it also sneaks in a ton of nutrients to boost gut health and support your hormones.
Snag the run-down of gut-friendly ingredient swaps below, as well as the delicious Oreo Cookie Blizzard recipe that you DO NOT want to miss out on this summer.
GUT-FRIENDLY INGREDIENTS:
+ Vanilla Collagen Protein
Rich In Amino Acids Like Glycine And Glutamine That Work To Heal And Support Your Digestive Tract. The Protein Helps Stabilize Blood Sugar, Important For Both Hormone And Gut Health. Adds A Naturally Sweet Taste. I like this brand. Don’t forget to use my code SOGREEN10 to save.
+ Prebiotic Fiber
This Fiber Helps Feed The Beneficial Bacteria In Your Gut, Enhancing Your Microbiome’s Ability To Make More Nutrients, Optimize Digestion, Regulate Blood Sugar And Decrease Inflammation. This is my go-to brand, use code SOGREEN10 to save.
+ Frozen Cauliflower
Adding Frozen Cauliflower To This Oreo Cookie Blizzard Enhances The Creamy, Thick Factor (Without Impacting The Taste) AND Significantly Boosts The Gut-Friendly Factor With Glucosinolate, A Sulphur Compound That Helps To Protect The Vulnerable Lining Of The Stomach, Reducing The Chances Of Developing Leaky Gut Syndrome Or Other Digestive Disorders.
+ Dates and Maple Syrup
While Still A Form Of Sugar (Overconsumption Can Lead To Gut And Health Issues) dates and maple syrup Are My Preferred Forms As They Are Minimally Processed And A Little Goes A Long Way (I.E. You Don’t Need That Much To Get The Sweet Taste You’d Crave In A Oreo Cookie Blizzard).
+ Creamy Nut Butter
Adding Nut Butter Is An Excellent Way To Sneak In Some Blood-Sugar Stabilizing Fat (Helping You Stay Fuller Longer) And Most Types Like Almond, Cashew, Walnut, Peanut, And Sunflower Contain Phytochemicals That Work To Lower Inflammation In The Gut. This brand’s flavors are INSANE and you can use my code SOFRESH15 to save.
Pro-Tip: Make a large batch of oreo cookie crumbles ahead of time and freeze so they’re ready to go whenever you’re in the mood for a quick and easy Oreo Cookie Blizzard.
This frosty, creamy, delicious and surprisingly healthy smoothie tastes just like an Oreo Cookie Blizzard, while also sneaking in gut-friendly ingredients.
First, you need to prep your Paleo Oreo Cookie Crumbles. Preheat oven to 350 F and cover a cookie sheet in parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, mix the almond flour, coconut flour, black cocoa powder and baking powder together until well-combined.
In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and melted coconut oil. Add the wet ingredients in with the dry until the batter is well-mixed. It should be thick and gooey.
Use a large spoon and scoop out one heaping spoonful of batter at a time onto the lined cookie sheet, pressing down on the batter to flatten it. Alternately, you could just make one sheet of cookie instead of individual cookies.
Bake in oven for 6 minutes, then flip cookies, rotate pan and bake another 6 minutes (12 minutes total).
Remove the pan from the oven and let cookies cool. This makes about 8 large cookies, which you can crumble once dry. This should yield PLENTY of cookie crumbles for your Oreo Cookie Blizzard. I recommend freezing the rest for whenever you want to whip up a blizzard quickly, otherwise you can store in an airtight container at room temp for up to a week.
Once your Paleo Oreo Cookie Crumbles are ready, set aside. Add all blizzard ingredients (EXCEPT for cookie crumbles) to a blender and mix until thick and smooth. Stir in preferred amount of cookie crumbles (I love 1/2 cup for a serious Oreo flavor factor) and enjoy! Optional to top with oat or coconut whipped cream.
Notes
**If practicing cycle-syncing, this smoothie would be especially beneficial to consume during your ovulatory phase, as it’s a light and easy to digest option (so it won’t weigh you down when your appetite and digestion slows) while it also includes nutrients like cauliflower that support your body in eliminating excess estrogen (which is highest at this point in your cycle).
